Timeline
Based on the research done by Lick Creek African- Lick Creek African American Settlement American Settlement: Investigating the Past through-Archaeology Lesson Plan Lesson Plan Grades 4 – Grades 4 –6 a timeline was created on the Settlers time at Lick Creek Settlement.

Herman Roberts
Herman Willis Roberts, born 7 Jan 1896, was elected chief of the Wenatchee Indian tribe in 1932, and titled Chief Kiutus Tecumseh. After becoming tribal chief, he was twice invited to the White House, once by Mrs. Herbert Hoover, and then by Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt. Kiutus Tecumseh, married Marie Jefferson, a member of the Iowa Sac & Fox Tribe, on 3 May 1943, in Grant County, Washington.

A bio for him states:

They were both born in Indiana and married there. They had a large family. John's father was from North Carolina. Kiutus was also the great grandson of Chief Tecumseh who fought in the battle of Tippecanoe in 1811.

Elias Robert's Freedom Papers
Lick Creek settler Elias Roberts’s freedom papers, also called “free papers.” Roberts once owned 640 acres in three different spots at Lick Creek to help other Blacks settle in the area. To all whom this shall come — Greeting
We the undersigned do hereby certify that we have Long Known Elias Roberts and his wife Nancy. Elias is the son of Ishmael Roberts and Nancy the Daughter of Thomas Archie. That the said Ishmael and Thomas have resided in Chatham for Twenty-Three Years (although the said Thomas now lives in Orange County) That they were both soldiers in the Revolutionary War and now have this regular discharges as such. And there can be no Doubt but the bearers of these Certificate Elias & Nancy Although persons of Color are free and entitled to all the rights and privileges of white persons, that they now have children Mary Candice and Nancy. We further certify that they are persons of Temperate Morals and industrious habits & that the recommendation is made in consequence of the said Elias expressing a wish to remove to the state of Indiana.
Sworn under our hands this 10th day of February AD 1825 Thos Hill (illegible) Branson H Branson D. George Es (illegible)”

Will and Testament Ishmael Roberts
Ishmael Roberts was the patriarch of a large family with children once spreading from Robeson to Chatham Counties in North Carolina. Penned in his own hand, on 12 Jul 1826 Ishmael “Robirds” wrote his last will and testament:

Matthew Thomas
The Lick Creek settlement began in 1831 with 80 acres of U.S. government patent land purchased by 22-year-old Mathew Thomas. A cemetery still stands on the site, including a grave marker for Mathew Thomas’s wife, Mary. | Limestone Post
